Press Release The Alumni and Friends of American Universities Association of Mallorca will celebrate Independence Day with a visit to Caixa Forum’s “Etruscan Prince” on Saturday, 5th July, at 12 noon, The tour will be followed by a 5 course “bistronomic” degustation at the new restaurant Safrà 21 in Ciudad Jardín. Created to bring together former graduates of American universities who reside on the island, the association has been the meeting point for many throughout the years. Founded and chaired by University of Wisconsin graduate Jean Pierce, the association has sought to serve as a link for expatriates with their new community. “We have set out to discover Mallorca’s rich cultural and historical heritage, like Caixa Forum’s Gran Hotel”, said Committee Chair Jean Pierce, a writer and retired Junior High School teacher. “We think it is appropriate to celebrate our Independence Day by strengthening cultural ties with Mallorca”, she added. Recent activities have included a visit to the University of the Balearic Islands, a visit to Costa Nord and a guided visit to the Fray Junípero Serra Museum, led by Tummy Bestard, former US Consular Agent and president of Friends of Fray Junípero Serra Museum, the Miró Fundation, Museo Krécovic, Es Baluard and the Mallorca Museum. “We look forward to a good turnout to the Caixa Forum visit and the degustation bistronomic”, said Tim Klein, Committee spokesperson and University of Wisconsin graduate.
